About Bill Abey

Bill is a Master Photographer, Photographic Craftsman and a Certified Professional Photographer. He has been a frequent speaker for Photo Marketing Association International (PMA) and Professional School Photographer's Association (PSPA). Bill's love of photography first became apparent at the age of six when he created his first enlarger out of wood in his father's workshop. He has been an active professional photographer and lecturer for over fifty years and has been photographing exclusively digitally for the past six years. He does all of his own archival-quality fine art giclée printing using pigmented inks.

Bill is a past president of the Professional Photographers of Ohio, an elected member of the Ohio Society of Photographers and served on the Board of Directors for Professional School Photographers of America. He has also served on the Professional Photographer's Association International Council, been Director of curriculum and an instructor for Winona School of Photography and Marketing Director for PPA. Bill McIntosh, internationally-known portrait photographer says “Bill Abey is single-handedly responsible for casual senior photography as it is known today. In the mid-1960's, Bill was the first to get three-quarter, full-length, and extreme close-up casual poses published in the yearbook. Prior to this innovation, only traditional head and shoulder poses were permitted.” The introduction of these types of images substantially increased portrait sales and average orders for the entire portrait photography industry.

Bill developed a chain of five full-service studios in the Youngstown, Ohio area over a period of 30 years. These studios were sold to Lifetouch, where he spent 15 years as Corporate Director of Photographic Development and Training. He was instrumental in the opening of the Flash Digital Studios for Lifetouch.

Bill is a photographic consultant, active photographer, educator and lecturer. Bill's style of photography is predominantly hand held, except for groups and time exposures.

Currently, Bill is creating fine art scenic photography of the gorgeous Florida and U.S. coastal areas. Working in both canvas and watercolor mediums, he is developing one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art, archival-quality photographic prints as seen through a Master Photographer's eye. In addition, Bill spends a portion of each month at the Denny Manufacturing Company in Mobile, Alabama, developing new backgrounds, prop concepts and photographing for their catalogue.

Bill lives on Ft. Myers Beach in Florida with his wife Mary Ann. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
